I had the privilege to host an evening 4th of July weekend concert on July 7 at the Primrose Retirement Community (http://www.primroseretirement.com/decatur-illinois-senior-care-communities/assisted-living-facilities.phpin) in Decatur Illinois.
With about 65 seniors and guests in attendance we started out with many patriotic tunes including a series of marches. We recognized veterans of each branch of the armed services; Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines & Coast Guard by playing each service song and having the veterans stand or raise their hands. Moved into big band sounds of the 40’s, standards & jitterbug from the 50’s & hits of the early 60’s. Played a bit of trivia. Enjoyed taking many requests including selections such as “Stardust,” “Stranger on The Shore,” “I Wished I Was in Peoria” and “Make The World Go Away”. Then moved into a nice set of instrumental classics and finally progressed into great romantic songs like “Unforgettable,” “Moon River” & “For the Good Times” which produced some wonderful dancing, check out the photos. Great memories for all those in attendance. Thanks for working with Executive Director – Susie Lawson & the Primrose Staff. Can’t forget to mention that we appropriately played “Primrose Lane” by Jerry Wallace. Big Smiles all around.
