The Importance of Setting Up Early

Recently I performed at a reception in the O’Hare area. I arrived 2 hours early before the scheduled start time to set up. Everything was on schedule, I had a backup system in the hallway set to play cocktail music and the main system set up for dinner and dance in the main room.
While the sound was great in the hallway, the main banquet room had a buzz sound coming from the speakers. As a result of testing I discovered the problem was not with my system, but with the room which had “dirty power.” It turned out that every outlet in the room produced this buzz. Due to the extra time I gave myself to set up and test the equipment I was not only able to diagnose the problem but also came up with the solution by running power form a kitchen outlet.
By the way it was a smash reception, even going an hour overtime.
